Remember the old Plymouth Voyager? It went where no man has gone before. Or something like that. The Plymouth Voyager was retired with the Plymouth brand, but it’s back, Baby! Better than before. Better, stronger, faster! (Now let’s see if I can finish the rest of this paragraph without any further bad references to retired TV shows.) The Plymouth Voyager changed the way families move and the new incarnation hints at more of the same. The redesigned, upgraded Plymouth Voyager will hit the streets as the Chrysler Voyager for 2021.
The Dodge Grand Caravan and the Chrysler Town and Country took over from where the mothballed Voyager left off. In 2017, the more upscale Town and Country opted for early retirement and now should really just be referred to as the Country, if you get my drift. Taking its place is the Chrysler Pacifica which has a lot of flash and dash. If your budget allows for flash and dash, then Bob’s your uncle. But if a basic ride that gives you a little more financial freedom to pick up those fancy swimming trunks for Little Johnny, so he can get off that mind-sucking game box appeals to you…well…Chrysler’s got ya. The Voyager is an entry level version of the Pacifica.
Like the Pacifica, the Voyager will have a 3.6L V6 with 287 HP and 262-lb-ft of torque. Governing all this will be a 9-speed automatic transmission.
While you may pay a little less for the Voyager, we want to assure you that Chrysler didn’t skimp on the important stuff like the ride. The ride retains the silky smooth feel of the Pacifica, corners on a dime and hugs the curves like there is no way it is letting go of the road. We feel that the Voyager’s possessive nature where the road is concerned is a definite positive in the realm of family safety.
We don’t know yet how the Voyager will be packaged in Canada, but we can likely take the lead from what is happening in the U.S. The two lowest trim levels of the Pacifica will morph into the Voyager, becoming the Voyager L, LX and LXi (the latter exclusively for fleets).
